Gaynell Pizzaro: Typically, with any surround sound receiver, you want to connect all of your devices (DVD, Cable Converter, Satellite, etc.) to your receiver than then connect the video to your TV. Your TV will basically be used only as a monitor, meaning that you will only rely on your TV for video and not audio. You will let your receiver produce the audio.Setting it up this way allows you to change your TV's functions using you receiver instead of changing inputs on your TV.The optical cable is simply an audio cable.
