Home school question ?

Frederick Mccoach: Leave the house... join homeschool co-ops and support groups. Take community center classes, classes at art studios, museums, aquariums, etc. Join 4H, go to library programs for kids, volunteer, join a youth group that has social events, join a drama club or a chorus, go places with your friends when they're out of school.Check newspapers, public bulletin boards, community happenings, etc. to find things going on in your area....Show more

Tyree Allenbrand: You don't say whether you're male or female, so I'll just throw out ideas for both. Depending on where you live, you could do lots of things. A lot of people who don't like team sports actually enjoy individual sports because the pressure of the "team dynamic" isn't there. Try a bowling league, riding a bike, or playing regular or frisbee golf. Sometimes even dance classes or water aerobics are fun. Take music lessons. Join a community theater. Get a part-time job. Study art, and learn t! o draw. Build models of things. Build real things (furniture, engines, sewing clothes, knitting, whatever interests you). Many areas have homeschool communities or co-ops where kids from homeschooling families get together regularly for activities, sports, field trips, presentations, etc. Find a worthwhile place to volunteer. Many shelters, food distribution centers, research groups, and community organizations would love the help. Invite your friends to hang out with you on the weekends. You can go to many of their events with them even if you don't attend their school. If you're in middle school, you may be legally allowed to join the public school's sports teams or clubs, even if you don't go to school there. Join 4H. Redecorate your room. Ask your parents or neighbors what you can do to help them at home. Visit relatives you really should spend more time with but are always "too busy" to see. Do logic puzzles. Do jigsaw puzzles. Do crossword puzzles. Rea! d the newspaper (or online version) every day to broaden your ! perspective and help you understand the world enough to have intelligent conversations about controversial topics. Get involved in a political campaign (this is an election year!). There's really no reason for you to be bored. I live in the middle of nowhere, 15 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and 35 minutes from and decent shopping stores. I homeschooled. I was not bored....Show more

Tosha Tawney: What activities do your friends do that aren't sports that you can't do anymore now? I was home schooled pretty much all of my childhood, and I never felt like I was missing out on things my friends were doing in school. You can probably still go to school events and activities if you want to and that's all there is for you - as long as you still live in the town, you should be able to attend public school events. Contact the school department about it. Good luck!

Piedad Bassiti: Fact of life: people will always talk about their school... and it will anno! y you until... well, graduation. The good news though is that you have a much broader view on life. You will make friends with people who are *gasp* a few years older and younger than you. You will learn to take initiative quite simply because activities are not handed to you on a silver platter. What you can do is look up some homeschool groups in your area. You enjoy reading I see. Most home school groups encourage writing. (Look up NaNoWriMo if you think you may be into writing). HS groups also have many sport and non-sport related events. The possibilities are endless!Additionally,You can also work harder now and graduate earlier. You would not believe how many people I know who have done that! If you graduate earlier, you can work for a year and make enough money to pay for all or part of your post-secondary education.Another cool thing about joining a homeschool group is that if you want to do some event but don't find it listed, YOU can organize it....Show m! ore
