What ethnic foods are traditionally vegan?

Perry Deshazior: Tobacco has been tested on animals, but not all companies run animal tests. You really need to talk to your doctor there are good programs to help you quit.Try getting your nicotine the healthy way by eating tomatoes and eggplant.

Elsie Resner: I would say Vietnamese altho they eat dogs. Thai also eat dogs. India... probably may be is it.

Lady Laflin: When I was a kid I used to live in Woodstock, NY and my mother used to get this amazing dip from the health food stores around there. It's called veggie pate. (and its especially delicious with carrot chips)Now I live in NYC and I cant find it ANYWHERE. I've had this odd craving for it lately and its virtually impossible to find in any store.Has anyone ever heard of it, or have a recipe for it? Any information would be appreciated, no one in any of the health food stores I've been to know what I'm talking about. Its like a phantom food from the past!...Show more

Claudio Drullard: Tortillas! .Rice and beans.Pico de gallo.HummusPita breadAs mentioned before, alot of Indian food....Show more

Kellie Waycott: It's not a tofu dish...i feel like it's just mushed up vegetables, but its like silk tastes like heaven

Augustus Sarria: yes

Craig Virani: Same reason animal testing is used anyways, its a cheap alternative to developing costly but long lasting machinery/cultures to do the same job. According to rodents penicillin the basis of many human medicines is useless whilst thaliminode is perfectly healthy (caused millions of birth defects). Animal testing is a sick practice that only serves to show how low man can reach in our grasps for technological jumps, there is no argument that can be brought forward that doesn't justify subjecting those of lesser mental/physical capacity to the same tests (namely babies/mentally ill). Besides the whole practice being already ridiculously unsound science, how can inducing human ailments into a different species! altogether EVER produce sound results when extrapolating?...S! how more

Nilda Bafia: I want to stop smoking, but always seem to start up again after a few days. I'm very much against animal testing, and know I can quit if I see that those companies test on animals. If anyone knows any links, it would be so helpful. Thanks everyone

Alisa Kaleiwahea: Lots of Thai food I think.

Douglass Sarley: veggie pate, that is a new one for me...So I did a search. Here is a link for one that looks pretty complex and is not vegan, but a veggie pate none the less...http://www.thehealers.org/food/pate.htmlHere is a recipe I found that is vegan and sounds delicious! Much simpler...1 cup sunflower seeds 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour 1/2 cup nutritional yeast 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup canola oil 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 potato, peeled and chopped 1 large carrot, peeled and sliced 1 onion, peeled and chopped 1 stalk celery, chopped 1 clove garlic, peeled 1 1/2 cups water 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 1/2 teaspoon dried ! basil leaves 1/2 teaspoon dried sage 1/2 teaspoon dried savory 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon ground dry mustard Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish. In a food processor, blend all the ingredients until they are almost smooth. Transfer mixture to the baking dish. Bake for 1 hour, or until lightly browned.I'm gonna have to try that one!! MMMM thanks for the question!...Show more

Robbie Starchman: Traditionally Chinese, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, and Jamaican have the most vegan cuisine options because they all have religious groups (Buddhists, Orthodox Christians, Rastafarian) who abstain from all animal foods during fasting periods. Vegan Thai and Indian can be very easy to make but restaurants use fish sauce and ghee (butter) respectively in nearly all the dishes so you have to specify when you order. Spring Rolls would be a fun idea for a large group or some kind of dumpling. Here are some recipeshttp://blog.vegcooking.co! m/2008/05/bok_choytofu_sp... http://eatair.blogspot.com/2006/03/spring-! rolls.ht....http://vegandad.blogspot.com/2008/05/chili-garlic-...http://vegandad.blogspot.com/2009/01/chinese-dumpl......Show more

Kimberlee Bowdish: How is this a vegetarian question and who on earth would put sugar in milk to give to a child?

Nicolas Cooley: mexican foodyou can do guacamole and salsa with chipsor rice and beansor a bean burrito with lettuce and tomatoes, etc etcyou can do sushi (vegetable rolls)you can make couscous with grilled eggplant...Show more

Ronnie Panas: Idk, but even if they don't. Cigarette butts are BY FAR the larges source of litter in the world. They destroy the environment and as such indirectly destroys animals. If you don't support animal testing then you shouldn't be smoking, it's extremely wasteful.

Sherita Gallati: There's an Ethiopian place I know and pretty sure their food is vegan. Is there anything like that near you? Something African? This one I'm thinking of has some interesting dishes like herb bread and! also some lentil curries and stuff like that. Other types of Asian as well, for example have you tried Vietnamese? Bit different from Thai. Mine has a bunch of vegetable and tofu dishes served with rice which I'm pretty sure are all vegan. At Italian you can also ask for pizza without cheese....Show more

Trena Berum: Good Question...If you are adding any sugar (corn syrup, granulated sugar...) to milk, you are increasing the opportunity for microbial growth (both good and bad), particularly if you are not processing the mixture an extremely sanitary environment. If you must add a sweetening agent, do it just before serving, and don't let the milk sit around. If you're heating the milk before serving, microwaving the liquid would decrease, to some degree, the number of live bacterium, but I doubt if I'd still want to play that roulette game with my baby. Was the addition of sugar to the milk pediatric advice?...Show more

Lou Rought: I store milk with sugar to! feed my daughter in the night. Is it safe to have a store milk for few ! hours before its consumed by my daughter ?

Joan Stavropoulos: As long as it is in a fridge it should be safe... but you might want to rethink the sugar...

Romana Stiman: A lot of Indian food is vegetarian and some of it is vegan. Try making dhaal, a lentil dish with a tomato based sauce. There are lots of recipes for it on the internet.

Barton Slisz: While I was researching animal tested products, I did come across Marlboro and I'm 99% sure they DO animal test.Check out this site;http://www.smokinganimals.com/Quit now!...Show more

Booker Moros: Testing Cigarettes On Animals

Marcelina Schossow: As a lot of the above posters have mentioned - Indian food is a fantastic example. I live on dhal! Serve with chapati bread - totally traditional and totally vegan! You could also look into chinese food too - the Chinese have been using tofu for thousands of years - they know what they're doing with it!!If in doubt - classic Italian. Wholemeal pasta wi! th tomato based sauce is to die for!...Show more

Danette Slotnick: Keep a close eye on the child. When it becomes inactive add more sugar.

Randall Twehous: Yeah I think you're best bet would be either Indian or Asian cuisine. I frequent a Vietnamese restaurant where a huge portion of the menu is vegetarian or vegan. The simplest traditional vegan food is what popularly called "Buddha's delight" and is comprised of fresh, steamed vegetables usually served over white rice.Good luck!...Show more

Micah Schwarcz: I am not sure if you wanted a recipe that is already a vegan (current suggestions) or take one that is not and convert it into vegan. If latter, I suggest going with Biryani (spicy indian rice dish that traditionally requires meat/yogurt/ghee). You can substitute with extra firm tofu (or soy nuggets), soy yogurt and canola oil. Also biryani traditionally goes with Raita (yogurt sauce). You can make with plain soy yogurt

Rosie Travino: I onl! y smoke marlboros too, which are phillip morris if they would happen to! test

Damaris Weiler: You should quit anyway.

Kim Gerbino: Indian food is very easy to make vegan. Here's a few recipes, not altered at all to be vegan:Masala dal (spicy lentils): http://www.indianfoodrecipes.net/daal-recipes/reci...Aloo ghobi (seasoned potato) http://www.indianfoodrecipes.net/vegetarian-indian...Lemon rice: http://www.indianfoodrecipes.net/indian-rice-recip...Curry (either omit the spoonful of yogurt, which is not needed, or use a soy yogurt) http://www.indianfoodrecipes.net/vegetarian-indian......Show more

Coleman Ocegueda: I know I should quit, and need too, but nicotine withdrawal isn't a walk in the park. I'm just looking for information, not lectures

Garry Ohmen: you should quit.and to smoke you have to inhale i dont know how they would get an animal to do so, therefore most likely no they dont test on animals.
