Lahoma Beadell: i maintain my PT cruiser religiously. I admit the engine, transmission, etc is great. No probs. But every 6 months i have to repair something with the suspension, or electrical. My bills so far, after warrenty expired has been 4200 dollars. Maybe it will go a long time without another needed repair.. who knows. But at this rate, i am spending 840 dollars a year on repairs. I paid this thing off in 2006. (it's a 2002)plus, this is a very small car but gets CRAPPY mileage. So, thats the history on my current car. A very sad history indeed....Show more
Wilbert Shellgren: There isn't a car built on this planet that will "run forever" without proper maintenance and the occasional major repair. Especially in the $4000 price range. $4000 for a car is like spending $6 on a steak and expecting to be served a great meal. Yeah, it's food and it'll fill you up but don't expect much else for what you paid. If you want a reliable car you need to buy a car tha! t has been well maintained and continue to maintain it once it's yours. All cars require maintenance. Without proper maintenance no car is reliable.Since you didn't discuss the types of problems you are having with your PT or how much you are spending on maintenance it's hard to say if you are experiencing excessive repair bills or not. Things like new brakes, new tires, new clutch, new alternators and starters, new batteries, A/C repairs, new belts & hoses, the occasional tune up and oil change. Even transmission service and occasional electrical work are all considered routine maintenance. These are all things every car owner must do. I don't know how old your car is or how much you still owe on the loan or how much you spend a month on maintenance but the general rule is that fixing a car is always cheaper than replacing it....Show more
