King Bringle: 43 miles can be 40 minutes or 3 hours. It's the time, not the distance that counts.
Hobert Dula: One way or round trip? Either way it's not too bad as long as the gas, wear and tear, and misc. costs don't drain your paycheck
Jeannine Vassie: It depends greatly on the job - and if it pays well enough to justify the drive. The types of roads, traffic, weather conditions where you live, etc. can also be factors. If it is too good of an opportunity to pass up, then take the job, and then start looking for somewhere to live that is closer to the job.
Cierra Gadbaw: Only you can decide this.
Cassondra Vanholland: I live outside a small city and job is in a small rural town
Voncile Slaubaugh: I would not do it. If I wanted the job, I would move closer to that location.
Andre Winegar: i have a job offer that is approximately 40 mins away from my town.. it's not ideal in terms of commute time but I know people who drive an hour ! to work each day. Is it really that bad?
Magda Vandergriend: NOT if it's the only job you can find within that 43 mile commute. I'd keep looking for something closer.ADDED: Calculate your cost of commuting against what you are earning. If you're driving your own car to and from work, you're probably working for 2-3 hours every day just to pay for the cost of getting to and from the job....Show more
Ulrike Hert: If you make enough to make it worthwhile, if you don't make enough to pay the gas and still have enough to live on comfortably I wouldn't. I love driving so that part wouldn't concern me.
Blaine Connett: Honestly i would rather make $2-4 less an hour then have a very long commute. Plus this has a negative impact on your car as it will depreciate quickly when you put alot of miles on it. I would either move close to the job or get a different job.
Serena Doak: That depends on where you live. Time is more important. 43 miles in LA during the r! ush hour can take 2 hours but in a rural area 45 minutes.
Octavio Roylance: Only you can decide if it is too much for you...But some things to consider:- Does the extra commute time pay you more to justify the extra travel time and expense? Is it beneficial for your career?- Are there other jobs closer to your home that you could consider?- The distance is only one part of the consideration, the other is the amount of traffic. Commuting 43 miles along a flowing highway is a lot faster than an urban, congested, route for example....Show moreDorinda Metzer: I do a two hour round trip to work six days a week and if the weather is bad or a heavy amount of traffic for some reason add up to another hour at times at least one way
